Business Acumen model
I want my people to understand the business of Business”

“We are aiming to achieve the understanding of a graduate in business studies but with an appreciation of how this relates to our business”

“We need to equip managers to be able to take on more senior and more cross-functional responsibilities at an earlier stage than has been possible in the past“

We design and deliver highly tailored Business Management programmes covering key themes of Business Management, for participants from graduate to senior level.

These bespoke programmes instil an indepth understanding of how business works (and how your business works) and how strategy and decisions impact results.

Our business management programmes equip managers with the business skills they need to carry out their current and future responsibilities effectively, and focus on helping managers achieve a greater understanding of how their own function interacts with other functions within the business.  The courses help managers understand how performance is measured and how their business compares to competitors.

Our programmes have been described by learning managers in many different ways. Some of the terms that have been used frequently include:

  • A mini-MBA.
  • A Business Education Programme.
  • A Foundation Programme in Management.

Superior performance is driven by effective strategic decisions and execution.  To achieve and sustain superior performance managers need a good appreciation of the underlying strategic drivers.

Measures of success can include both financial and non-financial measures.

The approach of including both has been recognised since the Balanced Scorecard approach was developed in the 1990s.

Understanding the key measures for your business can help develop insights that improve decision making.

At a macro level this covers the words used when discussing financial and strategic analysis. At a more micro level the terminology used within individual functions is explored, both industry-wide and also tailored to your organisation.

Familiarity with these helps managers communicate more effectively.

How different businesses organise their activities to create a position of competitive advantage.

  • Why are SouthWest Airlines and Ryanair more profitable than United and British Airways?
  • Why is the founder of IKEA so wealthy?
  • Why has the growth of Microsoft slowed compared to Apple and Google?

Our courses help managers explore how they can apply these lessons to their own businesses.  Some businesses have one business model; others have different business models in different parts of their business.

Our courses help managers understand how performance is measured and how their business compares to competitors.

Superior performance is driven by effective strategic decisions and execution.  To achieve and sustain superior performance managers need a good appreciation of the underlying strategic drivers.
